The city of Fortaleza in the state of Ceará was chosen to receive the first electric car sharing system in Brazil, an initiative that combines environmental conservation and innovation. The project includes 20 electric cars and 12 charging stations strategically placed around the city. Car sharing is already a reality in many European countries and that will also be the case in the capital of Ceará.
To make this project come true, Enel Distribuição Ceará is responsible for the platform that measures and follows the charging process at the stations, which is integrated with the billing service of its energy distributor. Using the cars is quick and easy: through the “Vamo” app on smartphones users can register, pay a monthly fee and choose their desired vehicle based on each station’s availability.
Car Sharing
The car sharing system was launched in 2011 in Paris, France. Other major cities such as London in England and others in the Unites States have also consolidated the car sharing system as an urban mobility action. In Italy Enel already operates the electric car sharing system (Car2Go) with rapid recharge stations (22kW-AC) and remote management through the EMM (Electric Mobility Management) platform.
According to studies, the global electric car fleet could reach 230 million by 2030, representing 35% of total vehicles. Research by Frost & Sullivan revealed that in 2015 there were already over 15,000 public charging stations for electric vehicles in Europe.
