Enel Brasil was founded to centralise Enel Group’s equity interests in the country and use a holding company to create a solid asset-management platform that would prepare the company for future expansion.
A privately-held public limited company, Enel Brasil is controlled by Enel Américas, which directly holds 87.7% of its total and voting capital. Other shareholders include Chilectra Inversud and Enel Generación Peru, which respectively hold 5.8% and 3.9% of the total and voting capital of the Company. The remaining shareholding refers to treasury stocks.
Enel Brasil has controlling majority interests in four energy distributors (Enel Distribuição Rio, Enel Distribuição Ceará, Enel Distribuição Goiás and Enel Distribuição São Paulo, two energy generators (Enel Green Power Cachoeira Dourada and Enel Fortaleza) and a transmission company (Enel Cien). These companies combined are responsible for about 1% of national energy generation capacity and around 8% of all Brazilian energy customers.
